Lauren Seward and Felix Thomas were married July 16 on the back lawn overlooking Otsego Lake at the Otesaga Hotel and Resort in Cooperstown. A reception followed on the hotel's veranda, followed by dinner and dancing in the ballroom.
The bride is the daughter of state Senator James and Cindy Seward of Milford.
The groom is the son of Magalis and Ramon Martinez of New York City and the Dominican Republic, and the Rev. Felix Thomas of New York City.
The Rev. Teressa Sivers of the Oneonta First Methodist Church performed the double-ring ceremony. The All Seasons Chamber Music Ensemble played traditional selections.
Aidan Havener of Washington, D.C., was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Laura Slesinsky of Oneonta, Liana Linderman of California, and Ashley O'Hara of Colorado. Junior bridesmaid was Deseray Thomas, daughter of the groom, of Oneonta.
Jose Lema of Oneonta was best man. Groomsmen were Will Thomas, brother of the groom, of New York City; Vince Slesinsky of Oneonta; and Ryan Seward, brother of the bride, of Boston, Mass.
Flower girl was Grace Slesinsky of Oneonta.
The bride wore an Oleg Cassini lace and tulle gown. Her hair was adorned with a fingertip veil and a silk flower and rhinestone headpiece made by her mother. Her flowers were wrapped with a length of lace from her mother's bridal veil.
The evening ended with the bride and groom sending aloft a sky wish lantern that they and their guests watched ascend over Otsego Lake.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Milford Central School; a 2006 graduate of the State University College at Oneonta, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education; and a 2010 graduate of Walden University, where she received her master's degree in reading and literature. She teaches first grade in Worcester.
The groom is a 1974 graduate of South Bronx High School and a 1998 graduate of SUNY Oneonta, where he majored in Spanish with a minor in business. He is a day habilitation assistant at Springbrook in Oneonta.
The couple honeymooned in the Finger Lakes and live in Oneonta with their daughters.
