Question of the week: It has been a little more than a year since President Barack Obama was elected into office. How do you think he is doing?
“I think it’s a little early to tell. I think
so much has happened with
our economic situation, and
I feel our economy is doing
better. But long term, it’s
pretty hard to tell what is going
to happen. I don’t think
we can really say if he’s doing
a good or bad job yet.”
— David Morell, teacher,
Oneonta
“In his first year, I think he’s doing pretty
good, to be honest with you. He’s been trying
to clean up Bush’s mess. He
came in with water over his
head; he was already drowning
before he stepped through
the door. So I think he’s dealing
with it well. I’d like to see
him hold his word about keeping
gas prices down, though.”
— Jesse Swindell, La Diva,
Norwich, Conn.
“I think he’s doing better
than the last president we
had. I’m not really involved
with politics, but he’s doing
better than Bush, who just
caused problems.
“Comparing the two, I think
President Obama is a better
leader; he’s more level and not
as hotheaded as Bush was.”
— Joshua Swindell, La Diva, Norwich,
Conn.
“I don’t think he’s doing
well. I think he’s screwing
up. I think we should pull
our men out of the other
countries.
“He’s going to be raising
taxes, and the economy just
can’t afford it.”
— Lalenia Mahnken,
housekeeper, Oneonta
“Not bad, but I’ll tell you
one thing _ he certainly
picked the worst time in the
world to be president. The
last guy had it bad, this guy
has it three times as bad, but
it takes time.
“They say in some areas,
the economy is picking up.
But where? Who? We’ve got to
wait a while yet. I always say,
it takes two years into a presidency before we
see things start to move.”
— Harold Witten, retired, Downsville
“I think he’s doing a bad
job. In the beginning of
all of this, he was saying
he was going to pull our
troops out of the war. It’s
probably going to be the
same next year.”
— John Blackburn, unemployed,
Oneonta
