COMMENTING ON STORIES:

Welcome to our story comments feature. We welcome your thoughts and your opinions, including the unpopular ones. We only ask that you keep your conversations clean, civil and on the topic of the story you are commenting on.

Coinciding with our websites redesign, we launched our new story comments feature through Disqus.

For the time being, our story comments feature will continue to have the ability to post comments anonymously. We reserve the right to require registration in the future using your name and verified email address.

11. Advertising of any kind.
12. Typing in all caps.

1. Create conversation on issues of interest and concern to fellow readers and local community members.
2. Express opinions and contrarian views.

Question of the week: What are your thoughts about college students returning to the area?

“I think it’s good; it keeps this place alive. I think we can improve on some things around here, and maybe the relationship between locals and college students is one of them.”

“I have a son that goes to college out in Utica, and I’m sure it helps the economy out there big time like it does here. Most of the college kids are real good and you deal with the pains.”

“I enjoy the summer when most of them go home, to be honest. This place becomes a ghost town and even though that’s not necessarily a good thing, no one is peeing in my garden at 4:30 in the morning trying to find their dorm room. But you know, we got a college student running for mayor now, and I like what he has to say, so I can’t say it’s all bad.”

“I don’t mind the students. We live in Cobleskill, which is a college town, and I think it’s good to have a college in a town like that because without the college, the town would die.”

But what really bugs me is that even though the town basically thrives off of college students, I think it’s unfortunate that we can’t provide more to keep them after they graduate. We don’t have any popular clothing stores, every restaurant or bar is the same and the job market isn’t up to par with a place like Saratoga, or whatever town we are trying to emulate these days.”
