Question of the week: Do you think the Stimulus Package just signed by President Obama will be good
for you and the economy?
“Yes, I think it’s good for the
economy. It’s not
exactly what I
want, but I think
to do nothing is
suicidal. I don’t
know that it’s
going to make
that big of an effect
on my life.
It so happens
I’m pretty self-contained. Our
income is from rentals, which
will continue. We’re self-sufficient,
we raise our own food,
I live on a farm. I don’t know
if it’s going to really help dramatically,
but for the economy
in general I think it’s good.”
— George Morgan, cattle
breeder, Walton
“I think it will be. I know the
country is in bad
shape. There
are a lot of people
out of work.
I’m also out of
work; I got laid
off in December.
So I’m hoping
this will bring
people back to
work. I’m for it.’’
— James DeMatteo, unemployed,
Bainbridge
“I think it will be. I think it’s
a long-time coming.
There’s not
a lot of options,
but it seems like
a fairly good option.
I think ultimately
you have
to have money
to invest in the
market. I don’t
think it’s going to happen any
time soon. So yes, ultimately, I
think it’s a good idea.”
— Katharine Medina, freelance
writer, New York City
“Not for me personally, no. I
don’t see how its going to help
me. I’m out of work. People
are losing their jobs. Unemployment
came
out today and
it’s even higher
than it was before.
I don’t see
what’s in it for
me. I think we’re
in pretty bad
shape. Between
the car makers,
the banks and everything else, I
don’t see where its getting better,
it’s getting worse. I don’t
see where I’m getting anything
to help me through.’’
— Veronica Baker, unemployed,
Oneonta
“I’m hoping that he does
what he says he’s
going to do, but I
think it’s a bunch
of B.S. I don’t
think they are
going to do everything
they say
they’re going to
do, because the
same day they
did that they turned around and
charged NYC in the city-state
tax 27 percent. So where is that
helping the economy? People
are losing their homes. It’s not
right. I don’t think its going to
benefit the regular people. It’s
going to benefit the rich.”
— Michelle Pike, disabled,
Hamden
“They bail out these stockbrokers,
why can’t they help
the American
public. We’ve
got to help each
other, if we don’t
do it, it’s going to
get ugly. I ‘m all
for it. I voted for
him.”
— Marcus A.
Delgado, business
owner, Oneonta
