Oneonta city officials are concerned that new and future development downtown could create parking problems.
Second Ward Alderman Edward Griesmer, head of the Governmental Affairs and Park and Recreation Committee would like the city to look at the needs for parking that will be created by development downtown, and study the existing parking facilities to see if they will handle those needs.
Griesmer said an increase in apartments downtown has already begun to place a strain on certain parking areas, such as those around Oneonta City Hall. The opening of the Ford Block and the construction of the proposed Oneonta Inn on the urban renewal lot, which is currently being used for parking, could create more problems.

Otsego County could have a state vocational high school training center in about a year, according to proposed legislation prepared by the State Education Department.
A bill being presented to the Legislature this week would make money immediately available out of a $120 million fund to be expended over the next 10 years.
In order to obtain such a school in this area, action would have to be originated by area school administrators.
They would need to make an application to the Commissioner of Education showing their willingness and ability to cooperate with the proposed program.
A need for such an institution would also have to be illustrated and a potential enrollment of about 600 students in the area would have to be shown.
The school, when constructed, would be aimed at providing trade and or technical training to students in grades 10, 11, and 12.
