Shop Talk is a weekly column featuring locally owned and operated businesses. This week, we talk to Nichole Corrina Bainer, a fashion stylist based in Oneonta.
How long have you lived in the area?
I have lived here for 4 years.
Tell me about your business:
NCB's Styling Services offers a variety of services from Image Services like wardrobe organization, photo shoot styling, Skype styling, home staging and personal shopping. In addition to this, I also provide business services such as corporate dress codes, brand photo shoot styling, retail staging, window displays and on-site seminars for image. Other services include fashion show directing and fashion styling parties, to name just a few.
Describe a typical day in your business:
My day starts with doing my daily fashion industry research, and then I conduct my meetings for the day. I can have an image consultation by day with personal shopping followed by a home party and finish the day in a fashion show.
How did you get started in this line of work?
Ever since I was a little girl, I loved fashion. I modeled as a kid and had my first fashion show at my high school, where I designed and sewed 20 outfits and raised $2,000 for the American Cancer Society. Then I moved from Connecticut to get my degree at the State University College at Oneonta in apparel and textiles. I have been doing image makeovers for five years now.
Where do you see this business in five years?
I hope to have an office on Main Street with at least two more employees. This will mean that I have many more happy clients walking around with their heads held high and with their confidence boosted after experiencing my services.
What have you learned from your work?
I have learned to be innovative.
What is the most enjoyable part of what you do?
The most enjoyable part for me is getting to see a clients face after they realize how much better they feel after going through their wardrobe and learning how to mix and match garments for their specific shape.
How do you define success for your business?
Success for me is having referrals and success stories from my clients.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
My business is very unique and there is no one in the area that provides the types of services that I offer.
What advice would you give to someone trying to enter your field of work?
Never give up on what you want to do, just tailor it for the audience you are presented.
