Brunswick right about Obama, Congress
Cary Brunswick's column for April 16 all too accurately sums up one of the most disappointing elements of President Obama's attempts to "compromise" with a foot-dragging Congress, the Boehner-McConnell crowd in particular.

Gun repeal, not reform, is what's needed
Our founding fathers recognized that they couldn't predict the future. Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter to James Madison: "No society can make a perpetual constitution, or even a perpetual law. The earth always belongs to the living generation. … Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19 years. If it goes longer, it is an act of force and not of right."

Obama worse than terrorists
The greatest threats to America are not from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran or Kim Jong Il in North Korea but from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the headquarters of Barack Obama and his "Evil Empire."

We should learn from 'First Americans'
When we talk about Indians or the derogatory, "Redskins," we should all sigh for a moment. We should have respect for people who lived here 5,000 years ago. The First Americans! The First TRUE Americans? Or at least before us or after early America's Paleo Indians.

Manor sale would end long, proud legacy
I have been going to the Manor, and before that the Meadows, to provide medical services since the early '80s initially as a medical resident and for the last 13 years as an attending physician. At the Meadows there used to hang a remarkable panel that included many familiar local names with ages ranging from months to the geriatric years. The panel was essentially the directory to the graves of paupers who were buried nearby. It was a powerful reminder that the Meadows, and subsequently the Manor, was a direct descendent of the county poor farm system.

It's past time to fight corruption
When we hear of one outrage or another, it's common to say: "there ought to be a law." But sometimes, we learn of something that seems so obvious that we're left incredulous and utter: "You mean, there isn't a law? Really?"

Gibson well outside of mainstream
The Daily Star said in its April 10 editorial about Gibson's possible run for governor, "A problem could be that his conservative views on such issues as abortion, gun control and gay marriage put him in the mainstream of national GOP doctrine but out of the mainstream when it comes to New York's liberal electorate."
