Local Salvation Army
doesn’t discriminate
We would like to take the opportunity to correct the record in response to Nico Meyering’s letter to the editor regarding The Salvation Army and our annual Red Kettle campaign. The Salvation Army in Oneonta (as well as in other locations) adheres to our mission statement to “meet human needs in (Jesus’) name without discrimination.”
We can assure Oneonta residents that we do not discriminate against any person or groups in our delivery of needed human services or hiring practices.
The funds collected though the Red Kettle campaign in Oneonta remain in Oneonta, providing meals, warm clothing, food pantry and emergency assistance to those in need year-round. Our Christmas program provides food baskets, toys and clothing for families struggling with unemployment and other issues — again, without discrimination.
The Salvation Army works in many ways to do the most good, helping to make change happen in the lives of people in our community.
We reach out to Mr. Meyering with the offer to meet with him and reassure him of the integrity of our services.
