Vote needed on fracking
Gas fracking is not being handled well by our representative government. Our officials were not elected on this single issue alone. Consequently, no matter how hard they try, they can never accurately represent us.
To be adequately represented on important issues, such as fracking, we must be allowed to vote. Moreover, the referendum must be in clear, unambiguous language, such as: Do you want fracking in your town? Yes or no?
Star missed out on frack rally
I just wanted to let The Daily Star know that they missed an important opportunity with the coverage of the Albany anti-fracking rally on Monday, Aug. 27.
It was unfortunate that such a small article went along with your account of such a small showing when it is obvious the rally was a huge success. Rather than just a couple of hundred people showing up, it was more than 1,000 people. Last account was 2,400.
Myself and many others from our area participated, following in a caravan, joining others coming in from the Southern Tier alone. There were close to 50 vehicles and buses in our caravan, but there were many others from across New York state, Pennsylvania and Ohio, arriving in Albany around 10:30 a.m. and meeting in the Riverfront Park for our first rally. From there we marched up Broadway to the state Department of Environmental Conservation for a brief street production about gas drilling woes. We then continued to march onto the Capitol Building for our last rally and to present Gov. Cuomo with our petition.
There were representatives from Ohio, Pennsylvania and the Delaware Basin who spoke to the crowd, along with Debra Winger, Josh Fox and others.
Not only did the Albany police force and the state troopers work with us, they blocked off roadways to allow us the freedom to march. Everyone worked together to make this a great success.
I could continue to inform you of the great day we had, but I won’t. I do encourage you, however, to take the time to do this on your own. Two excellent websites are dontfrackny.org and the marcelluseffect.blogspot.com. Also there are numerous videos on Youtube and Facebook. What harm could it do to take a look?
