Immigrants don't deserve easy path

I disagree for the most part with President Obama's new policy regarding immigrants who were brought to this country illegally as children. In my opinion, the only undocumented aliens who should be granted work permits are those who have honorably served in our military forces. Providing work permits to 800,000 illegal immigrants at a time when more than 20 percent of young Americans are unemployed is grossly unfair to those law-abiding U.S. citizens.

I'm not opposed to legal immigration, having lawfully entered the U.S. as a teenager in the late '50s. I obtained a permanent visa at the U.S. embassy in Dublin, having proved that I was in perfect health and didn't have a criminal record.

As a resident alien here, I was required to register for the military draft within six months of arriving and to have my green card in my possession at all times _ including the four years I served in the Marine Corps.

But my honorable discharge from the Marines didn't guarantee me an easy path to citizenship. I was fingerprinted, photographed and subjected to an investigation that lasted six weeks before I was allowed to become a naturalized American. Many young men in my age group had to travel the same route to citizenship, because the INS laws were strictly enforced in those days.

At the present time, however, many of our immigration laws are ignored and that is very unfair to law-abiding Americans and legal residents. No one should ever be rewarded for knowingly residing in this country as an illegal alien. That sends the wrong message to others who intend to unlawfully enter the U.S. and remain here in violation of our immigration laws.

Pinkey is ridiculous

Chuck Pinkey is still professing his repertoire of prejudice, showing that there really is an upside-down world. He may as well stand on his head to prove his brains are in his feet. You like the more racy emails, Chuck? Like the ones from Paladino depicting bestiality?

Remember that Chuck is trying to be "politically correct whenever possible and always sensitive to the feelings of others," when he calls you slothful, lazy, bums, and slugs! Words define who you are. His philosophy is totally hypocritical. He and his counterparts never offer a sound idea except for a Smith and Wesson gun. Without name-calling, he would have nothing to say.

As for your "birther" fantasy, Chuck, you are about as ridiculous as Donald Trump's hair. You and Trump say, "Where is the doctor?" Considering the age of President Obama, has it occurred to you that the doctor might be dead? Let's hear from some obstetricians and see how many remember babies they delivered 50 years ago.

When you simply strike blows against others, it is a confession that you do not have any logical ideas or the capability of using common sense. You and your right-wing friends breed a personal hate mentality against anyone that doesn't agree with you. People need to really listen to the Fox Entertainment crew and all their followers and hear the hatred they promote. Then all of you profess your Christianity and patriotism!

This 2012 election is far too important to vote on sound bites. Everyone needs to become informed at what is at stake. When a political party is solely intent on bringing down the president of our country and refusing to legislate to create jobs or to help the economy in this world economic crisis, to me it is an act of treason.
