Lucille Eleanor (Jenks) McGown
COOPERSTOWN _ Lucille Eleanor (Jenks) McGown died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, joining her beloved husband Mac in peaceful eternity.
Lucille was born March 13, 1922, and raised in Afton. She graduated from Cornell University, meeting and marrying Wilson McGown of Cooperstown just a year later.
The McGowns lived for nearly 25 years in Burnt Hills outside Schenectady before retiring to Cooperstown. Lucille was a quiet, constant volunteer for several organizations including Bassett Medical Center.
She was instrumental in restarting the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce where she worked with her dear friend, Helen Spellman.
She enjoyed a 90th birthday celebration with all of her children and grandchildren just last March.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Patricia and husband William Thompson of Alton, Va., and grandchildren Charles, Kerry and Mark; son, James McGown and Laura Bryant of Gilbert, Ariz., and their children, Allen and Carri Bryant, and a passel of little Bryants.
She was predeceased by her brother, Alton Jenks of Afton.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. Elsie Armstrong Rhodes, pastor officiating. A reception in the chapel will follow the service.
Burial in the McGown family lot in Lakewood Cemetery will be private.
