Dennis M. Coulman

ONEONTA —

Dennis M. Coulman

Dennis M. Coulman, 52, passed away peacefully at home with his wife Amy by his side on Thursday, June 7, 2012.

He was born Nov. 20, 1959, in Brooklyn, the third son of Robert and Lorraine (Devlin) Coulman.

Dennis graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1978. He then graduated from SUNY Delhi, with a degree in agriculture and from Washington County Community College in Calais, Maine, with a degree in forestry management.

He was a true outdoorsman, especially enjoying trapping and taxidermy. His passion for trapping was infectious. He loved passing his knowledge and experiences on to others and had several articles published in recent years in various magazines. Dennis enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for family gatherings and he loved to plant his garden. Some of Dennis and Amy's favorite time spent together was heading out on dirt roads looking for adventure or simply enjoying quiet time together. Over the years, he was a member of Laborer's Local 643 then Local 17 and was a self-employed logger as well as a New York State licensed hunting guide.

Dennis was very proud of his children, stepchildren and granddaughter. The mention of their names and sound of their voices brought a huge smile to his face. He especially cherished time spent with Michael and Sarah.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Coulman of Oneonta; his son, Michael Coulman of Florida; his daughter, Sarah Coulman of Laurens; his parents, Robert and Lorraine Coulman of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his brothers, Bryan Coulman, Christopher Coulman and Robert Coulman Jr., all of Florida; step-children, Joseph Lawton and companion, Krista Esposito, Hannah Lawton and fiancé, Dereck Ruling and their daughter, Leah and Andrew Lawton, all of Oneonta; mother-in-law, Marjorie Chase and brother-in-law, Michael Chase and his wife, Kimberly and very special nieces, Kaley and Serena Chase of Milford Center.

He was predeceased by his brother, Kevin Coulman, USMC, who died while serving in Beirut during the U.S. Embassy bombing in 1983 and his father-in-law, Kendall Chase Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 15, in the Milford Center Cemetery, with the Rev. Stephen Fournier officiating. A celebration of Dennis' life will follow at the home his mother-in-law, Marjorie Chase.

Donations in Dennis' name may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Expressions of sympathy may be made at, www.lhpfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are under the guidance of the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
