Mildred B. Robertson
UNADILLA — Mildred B. Robertson, 98, of Valatie, formerly of Unadilla, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at the Barnwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Valatie.
She was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Bovina, the daughter of J. Frank and Nancy (Coulter) Brown. She married Harry Robertson on Oct. 17, 1936, in Delhi, who predeceased her.
Mildred attended elementary school in Bovina Center starting in 1919. In 1925, the family moved to Delhi, where Mildred began high school and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1929, at the age of 15. In September 1931, she enrolled in Albany Hospital Nurses Training (now Albany Medical Center) and completed her courses in June 1934, and received her R.N. degree.
Mildred returned to Delhi and did some private duty nursing and was employed at Delhi Hospital from 1935 to 1940. In 1939, the Robertsons purchased a farm outside of Delhi which they operated until 1942, when they were forced to sell the farm due to the short supply of farm help due to the war. Later in 1942, the family purchased a farm in Unadilla. Periodically from 1952 to 1954, Mildred took private duty nursing assignments and in 1955, became school nurse teacher at Otego Elementary School and later at Unadilla retiring in 1975. Following retirement the Robertsons toured Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland, and trips to Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky ,the Grand Canyon and other national parks.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Trudyann Robertson of Troy; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Matt of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, John, Eric, Richard and Angeline; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; a son, Warren; a brother, Everett Brown; and a sister, Mary Burgin.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Unadilla, with the Rev. Patty Wolfe officiating.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box Z, Unadilla, NY 13849 in Mildred’s memory.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., of Unadilla.
