RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Dorothy Mae Mary Hammer, 79, of Locust Lane, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Jan. 20, 2013, in her home. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1934, in Carteret, N.J., daughter of the late Benjamin and Augusta Silva Goedesky. Dorothy was raised in Carteret, and was a graduate of Carteret High School.
On Nov. 23, 1960, she was united in marriage with John R. Hammer in Linden, N.J. Together they shared a devoted union of 29 years until his passing on Dec. 1, 1989.
Mrs. Hammer resided in Richfield Springs since 1973, coming from Colonia, N.J.
Dorothy had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Richfield Springs.
To all who knew her, she had a true sense of community. She was a member of the West Winfield Community Singers, the Red Hat Lady Bugs and a former member of the Richfield Springs Garden Club.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening around her home and sewing. She had a special place in heart for cats and they returned that affection to her. Mrs. Hammer will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person who was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her three cherished grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
Surviving are one son, Frank Hammer and his wife, Bethann of Richfield Springs; a daughter, Elizabeth Hammer-Munemura and her husband, Yoshineri of Dobbs Ferry; one brother, Robert Goedesky of Florida; three grandchildren, Jonathan Hammer, Jennifer Hammer, both of Richfield Springs, Seiji Munemura of Dobbs Ferry; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, John; she was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Goedesky.
Calling hours for Mrs. Hammer will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow immediately after in the funeral home at 7 p.m.
