Joan A. White
FALMOUTH, Maine — Joan A. White, 86, of Falmouth, Maine, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, with her family by her side.
She was born in Manhattan on July 5, 1926, daughter of John B. and Laura A. Watson.
She graduated from Gilbertsville High School in Gilbertsville, and later attended Otsego Area School of Nursing.
She married Stanford K. White in Oneonta.
She enjoyed being a stay at home mother. Her interests included needlework, ceramics, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed playing card games.
Joan devoted many hours to her parish churches serving on the Altar Guild and singing in the choir. Joan was a longtime communicant of St. James’ Church in Oneonta, Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown, and St. Mathew’s Church in Liverpool.
Joan is survived by her six children, Carol Wiedeman of Liverpool, John White and his wife, Kathleen of Fort Mill, S.C., Glenn White and his wife, Maria of North Syracuse, Allen White and his wife, Debbie of Oakdale, Pa., Jessica Blanchard and her husband, James of Gray, Maine, Vanessa Capelluti and her husband, Jody of South Portland, Maine; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Stanford K. White in 1982; her sister, Hope Browning; and granddaughter, Julianne White.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the entire staff at 75 State St., and Falmouth by the Sea for their care and compassion through these past years.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Joan’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 12, 2013, at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 305 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, officiating.
