Johan H. Gedde
HOBART _ Johan H. Gedde, 91, of Hobart, died on Monday, May 21, 2012, at home in Hobart.
He was born on April 19, 1921, in Aasgaarstrand, Norway, the son of Morten and Ebba (Gedde) Thorvaldsen. He married Elsa Jorgensen in Long Island on March 1, 1944.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Gedde was a carpenter by trade and owned and operated the Land's End Marina and Motel in Sayville with his brother from 1956 until 1983, when he retired and moved to the Hobart area.
He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. He served on the Village Board in Hobart for many years, and was involved in the local senior citizens group and the Sons of Norway.
He enjoyed taking care of the grounds around his property and took pride in his flower garden. He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Elsa; a son, John Gedde Jr.; grandchildren, John Michael Gedde and Christine Ann Bailey; great-grandchildren, Emily, Erika and Aidan; a sister, Ingrid Robinson; a brother, Ernst Gedde Thorvaldsen; a sister, Elaine Iverson; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Stamford, with Deacon Glenn Schermerhorn officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
