Susan Elaine West Reynolds

MILFORD — Susan Elaine West Reynolds, 67, a native and life-long resident of the Milford area, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

Born March 7, 1945, Susan was the daughter of Frederick and Virginia “Ginny” (Lynch) West of Milford. She graduated from Milford Central School in the Class of 1963. She married the “love of her life,” James Reynolds on Sept. 25, 1965 in Milford.

Throughout her life Susan was a “giver,” be it as a devoted and loving caregiver to her family and friends, or by the giving of her time as an involved member of her community. Among many other activities, she was active for a number of years as a 4-H leader, as a member of the Milford Cemetery Association and as a former member of the board of directors of Chen-Del-O Federal Credit Union. She was a hard worker and valued employee who always went the “extra mile.” Over the years she was employed at Bresee’s Department Store, Citizens Bank in Oneonta, Oneonta Savings and Loan in Cooperstown and most recently, and for more than 30 years, at the Cooperstown Central School business office in Cooperstown as an account clerk typist.

Many of Susan’s hobbies and activities involved her never ending “care giving.” She was devoted to her family, was the consummate homemaker, and loved to cook, sew, quilt blankets and make afghans for her loved ones. She adored her two grandchildren and rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with, and love and care for them. She was simply a “caregiver,” putting the needs of her family first. Her cheerful disposition was always on display and evidenced by her, favorite and often repeated saying; “If you see someone without a smile give them one of yours.”

She is survived by her husband, James Reynolds of Milford; her sons, David Reynolds of Milford and Michael (Melissa) Reynolds of Raritan, N.J., and their two children, Ryan and Kayla. She is also survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, all of Milford, David and Christine West and Richard and Debra West; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Milford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Maryellen Moore, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. There will be no calling hours. Following the reception, burial and committal services will be held at the family gravesite in the Westville Cemetery.

The family suggests, for those who so desire, that contributions be made in Susan’s memory to either the American Cancer Society, 8 Oak Ave., Sidney, NY 13838 or to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
