Leonard F. Burdick

ONEONTA _ Leonard F. Burdick, 75, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

He was born March 16, 1937, in Bloomville, the son of Frank and Gladys (Hitt) Burdick.

Leonard married Mary Ellen Walker on Sept. 26, 1959, in Ithaca.

He graduated from SUNY Delhi with an associate's degree in accounting.

Leonard worked as a local banker, starting with Oneonta Savings and Loan, and retiring as an executive vice president from Astoria Federal Savings and Loan, after 33 years.

He retired from the United States National Guard with the rank of Captain, after 21 years of service.

He served on the board of several community organizations, including the Oneonta Elks Club No. 1312, A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, the Oneonta Country Club, the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club, the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Post 259.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Burdick of Oneonta; two sons, Dan Burdick of Ithaca, and Brian and wife Shelly Burdick of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Kelly Burdick of Ithaca and Xander Burdick of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Mildred and husband, Thomas Camb; brothers, Alden and wife, Janice Burdick and Ford Burdick; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Wilson.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta. The funeral service will follow at 11a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor at the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
