Martin Haviland
ONEONTA — Martin Haviland, 62, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at home surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with ALS.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1950, in Elyria, Ohio. Marty grew up on the banks of Lake Erie, where he developed his deep and abiding love of the water.
Marty had been with his wife, Maureen (Collins) for the past 35 years. He was the father of Kelly Wilde; stepfather of Rachel Calvey, both of Oneonta and Martin and Jerry Haviland of Santa Fe, Texas; the beloved grandfather of Austin and Natalie Wilde, Shelby Mochrie, Tyler Green and Sydney Haviland. He is also survived by sisters, Barbara Runyon and Loretta King; brothers, James and Clarence “Butch” Haviland; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Even though New York was his adopted state, Marty spent many a great many hours exploring and fishing its lakes, rivers, ponds and streams. He will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of life service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker, officiating.
