Herbert L. Mallory
HAMDEN — Herbert L. Mallory, 73, recently of Hamden and formerly of Cooperstown died Friday evening, Oct. 26, 2012, at Bassett Medical Center.
Herb was born July 9, 1939, in Cooperstown. He attended schools in Milford, Middlefield and Cherry Valley as well as Concord, Mass. He was a farmer, farm laborer, construction worker, and truck driver. For a number of years he also worked at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown as a groundskeeper.
He served his country in the National Guard and completed basic and advanced infantry training earning the rank of Specialist First Class and the designations of BAR Specialist and Sharpshooter. He also received Armored Infantry training at Fort Drum where he was trained as a driver/operator of armored personnel carriers.
Herbert was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Reynolds Mallory; his mother, Cora (Tyler) Mallory; and by his wife, Viola (Perkins).
He is survived by his sister, Genevieve Roe of East Meredith; his brother, Wilbur Mallory of Hamden; and by one niece and four nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, 28 Pioneer St., Cooperstown from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012.
In accordance with Herb’s wishes there will be no public funeral service, rather a private graveside service at his burial in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
