Howard Weerheim
TREADWELL — Howard Weerheim, 87, of Treadwell, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.
He was born on May 8, 1925 in Harrison, S.D., the son of Adrianna and Henry Weerheim. He moved with family to New York state in 1940. He was married to Helen Archibald on Aug. 16, 1947, in the first Presbyterian Church in Delhi, and they most recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Howard served in the U.S. Navy, onboard the USS Alaska from 1944 to 1946.
He worked 20 years for the Treadwell Lumber Company and later retired from Dellwood Foods after 17 years in July 1986.
Howard will be especially remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of restoring old cars, gardening, traveling and long walks.
Howard leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen; two sons, Elwood (Salinda) Weerheim, and Keith (Karen) Weerheim; two daughters, Marlene (Ron) Stewart and Lorna (Brian) Maguire; and eight grandchildren.
He is also survived by four brothers, Warren (Jeannie) Weerheim, Everett (Harriett) Weerheim, Lawrence (Claire) Weerheim and Earl Dean (Marilyn) Weerheim; two sisters, Rosella (Ray) Gass and Margery Leisy; his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Joe) Gagnon; his brother-in-law, Earl Warren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Arlin Weerheim; and his sisters, Henrietta Eden, Alida Warren and Irene Southwick.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Treadwell United Methodist Church, 68 Church St., Treadwell, NY. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception immediately following the burial, from 3 to 5 p.m.
