ITHACA --Violet Davis, 89, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the Cayuga Ridge Nursing Home in Ithaca.

She was born in New York City on Feb. 16, 1923. When she retired from Amphenol (Bendix Corporation) after 25 years of service, she became an avid hiker completing the Finger Lakes Trail and Long Path North.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bert of 54 years and three siblings.

She is survived by her son, Francis Davis (Mena) of Ithaca; daughter, Silvia Davis of Aspen, Colo.; grandsons, Duane, Shawn, Brian, Ramon and their wives; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Louise Bowman of Richmond, Va. and Lillian Rhoades of Swanzey, N.H.; and brother, Ernie Hanselman of South Kortright.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thurday, Aug. 2, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 302 St. Catherines Circle, Ithaca.
