LIVINGSTON MANOR _ Shirley Taggart, a lifelong resident of Livingston Manor, passed peacefully on Aug. 8, 2012, with her family by her side at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility, Roscoe.

She was born on May 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Willard and Irene Green.

She was a retired "lunch lady" for the Livingston Manor Central School District. She was active in the Livingston Manor Senior Citizens Group, Livingston Manor Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension, a dedicated community member.

A family statement reads:

Our mother was a beautiful, remarkable woman. She was caring, kind and could always see the best in people. She did an incredible job of bringing up her children and always made people feel welcome in her home. Every holiday was made special; she thought nothing of preparing Thanksgiving dinner for 30-40 people. Known for her applesauce cakes, beautiful smile and love of children, she will be held near and dear in the hearts of those who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Andrew F. Taggart Sr.; her daughter, Terry LaPointe and husband Vic; her four sons, Andrew Taggart Jr. and wife Valerie, Willard Taggart and wife Kim, Gary Taggart and wife Claire, all of Livingston Manor, and John Taggart and wife Barbara of Glen Allen, Va.; sister, Janet Taggart of Livingston Manor; brothers, James Green and wife Lucy of Livingston Manor, and Gary Green of Daytona Beach, Fla. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, Tracy Dolan (husband Jaime), Victor (VJ) LaPointe III (wife Kristen), Lisa Tennant (husband Andrew), Jessie LaPointe, Justin Taggart, Jessica Taggart, Amanda Taggart, Jennifer Taggart (fiance Chris Miller), Andrew Ryan Taggart, Joshua Ross (wife Sinta), Ashley Bowers (husband Justin), Trever Taggart, Evan Taggart; four great-grandchildren, Kirkland, Andrew and Riley Dolan and Sophia Rose LaPointe; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Willard Green Jr.; and son, David Joseph Taggart.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 2012, at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, followed by a service celebrating her life at 4 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Facility for their excellent and compassionate care.
