Lucette Harrington
ONEONTA _ Lucette Van Limbeek Harrington, 100 years old, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Home.
She was born Dec. 22, 1911, in Antwerp, Belgium. She came to the United States for the first time as a 5-year-old with her family, escaping the German invasion of Holland during World War I. They later returned to Belgium, and ended up moving back to the United States permanently when she was a teenager.
She married William Treanor Harrington on Jan. 20, 1939. They lived in New York City, Jamestown, Chenango Bridge and Binghamton, and in Summit, N.J. In 2006, she came to Oneonta to be closer to her daughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1994; and by her sister, Nell in 1996.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy, Oneonta; her son, Charles, Redding, Conn.; her five grandsons, Christopher Harrington, Salisbury, Md., Jonathan Harrington, Madison, Wis., James Harrington, Redding, Conn., Jeffrey (and Debbie) Landry, Oneonta, and Benjamin Landry, Binghamton; her great-grandchildren, Tucker, Willow and Hazel Landry of Oneonta; and a nephew, John Grell, Bridgewater, Conn.
She loved her family _ her children and grandchildren _ very, very much. Other joys in her life were reading, knitting, hiking, listening to classical music and opera, watching tennis tournaments and her native country Belgium. She was an active and proud member of the Unitarian Universalist Church nearly all of her life.
