SPRINGFIELD CENTER _ William Schultz, 81, longtime residence of Springfield Center, passed away on July 17, 2012, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. William was born on May 29, 1931, the son of the late Gilbert and Mary (Teanet) Schultz in Richfield Springs, N.Y.

He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the 2nd U.S. Marine Division in the Korean War, with engagements at the seizure of Inchon, Soul and Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin Campaign.

He was married for 56 years to the former Ruth I. Ward in Richfield Springs, on June 3, 1956, who survives.

He owned and operated Bill's Garage in Springfield Center for 55 years. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League of Ilion, served 48 years in the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, was inducted into the Central New York Stockcar Hall of Fame member for stockcar racing, and a member of Chosen Few.

Bill loved to spend time bowling, hunting, farming and horses, and most of all with his children and grandchildren and his dog Shasa and cat Fluffey.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth, sons, William Brian and wife Belinda Schultz, and Dale Schultz; grandchildren, Teagen, Adam, Calley Schultz and Maddie; a sister, Barb and husband Rick Miklic of Little Falls; and brother, Joe Schultz of Fort Plain. Bill was predeceased by three sisters and nine brothers.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Springfield Fire Department.

Services will be held at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley, NY, at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, with calling hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. service time. Burial will follow at Springfield Center Cemetery, with full military honors from the U.S. Marine Corps.
