Doris Elizabeth Finch
ROXBURY — Doris Elizabeth Finch, 91, of Milford, was the eldest of five children born to Elicuim and Elizabeth Finch, Sept. 21, 1921.
Doris attended Roxbury school, and when WWII began she went to work at a defense plant where she operated a huge lathe making bolts.
Doris married Ray Charles Tully and had a son, Reggie. Ray died of a heart attack when Reggie was only 2 years old and making Doris a widow for 17 years.
Doris then married Stuart Martindale, they were farmers in the Milford area and had a son Seth, who passed away in August, 2008. Seth and Bobbie had one son Ethan, now 6 years old. Stuart worked for the village of Milford. He died in February 1992. After Stuart’s death, Doris lived in Laurens and then moved to Waverly.
Doris was cared for by her brother Jim until his health forced him to admit her to Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville where she passed on Nov. 8, 2012.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her two sons, Reggie and Seth; two sisters, Inez who served in the Women’s Army Corps; and Angie who passed in her early teens in 1939. Angie had really wanted to attend the new school in Roxbury.
She is survived by two brothers, James Finch, who was a welder of submarines at the age of 16, and lives in Roxbury, and Joseph who retired from Milford School and lives in Norwich, grandson Ethan; granddaughter, Donna; and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home in Roxbury.
