John Edwin Hollenbeck
WORCESTER — John Edwin Hollenbeck, 83, passed away suddenly Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.
He was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Worcester, the son of
Edwin W. and Gladys (Knapp) Hollenbeck.
John attended the Worcester Central School. He was a waterboy for the railroad in Schenectady at the age of 16. As a young man, he worked in the circus as a snake charmer. John was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for 38 ½ years.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.
John married June Damiano on Nov. 8, 1957, in East Worcester.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 2752. He enjoyed family life and also hunting, fishing, bingo and his friends, especially his friends on the hill.
John and his family were very thankful for his niece, Nancy, and nephew, Richard, who were always there for him.
He is survived by his wife, June Hollenbeck of Worcester; a daughter, Gloria and husband, Roger Lott of Richmondville; a sister, Marguerite and husband, Carl Hughes of Milford; a brother, Lorenzo Hollenbeck of Palatine; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Jane Horton; and two brothers, Willard and Kerrie Hollenbeck.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester.
The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judith Thistle officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
