Calvin L. Chase
MILFORD — Calvin L. Chase, 90, of Milford died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Bassett Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He had resided on Serenity Place at Otsego Manor for the last two years.
Born June 4, 1922, in the town of Hartwick, he was the son of Curtis and Maude (Kortz) Chase.
He married June Cobb on Dec. 20, 1942; she predeceased him on May 6, 1991.
Calvin spent his entire life in the town of Hartwick. Calvin and June owned and operated a poultry farm outside of Milford for nearly 30 years. He was also employed for several years by the former Cooperstown Dairy and was a retired employee of Bassett Hospital, working in the Housekeeping Department for more than 10 years.
He was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church and the Hartwick Seminary Grange.
Calvin was a devoted father and husband as evidenced by the tender care he gave to June during her extended illness.
He was well-known for his gardening skills and always had a garden that was the envy of the neighborhood.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Ballard and her husband, Elisher of Queensbury; his son, Calvin W. Chase and his wife, Kathryn of Oneonta; and by his daughter, Carolyn Meade and her husband, David of Milford. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Lavrinos of Fly Creek; his sister-in-law, Ruby Chase of Cooperstown; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Robert; a brother-in-law, Nicholas Lavrinos; a brother, Chester, who died as a young child; and by an infant twin sister.
At his request there will be no calling hours.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in the Milford Cemetery with the Rev. Betsy Jay, the Bassett Hospital Chaplain, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who so desire make contributions in Calvin’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (Leatherstocking Region), c/o The Meadows, Suite 2, 140 County Highway 33 West, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
