Richard I. Rolland Sr.
ROXBURY _ Richard I. Rolland Sr., resident of Roxbury, died Aug. 16, 2012, at Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville.
Dick was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Johnson City, the son of Jules and Gladys (Legge) Rolland. He married Gloria Iburg in May 1953, in Vestal.
He was a civil engineer for NYS Department of Transportation Region 9, Binghamton, NY. Dick served with the U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific Conflict with 9th Unit.
Dick attended Colgate University. He was always doing engineering projects for many local projects for friends, town of Roxbury and other local groups.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting and skiing. He taught ski school at Belleayre Ski Center and started ski school at Plattekill Ski Center in Roxbury. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed nature.
Survived by his wife, Gloria Rolland; children, Richard Rolland Jr., Mary Rolland; sisters, Ruth Glenister, Althea Glenister and Doris Trevett; and brother, Bob and wife Janet Glenister.
A service to celebrate Dick's life will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
