MARYLAND — Margaret J. Waring, 97, of Maryland, passed away on Thurs., September 13, 2012, at the Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.

Margaret was born on March 11, 1915 in Albany, the daughter of Attorney Julian B and Gertrude (Swartfiguer) Jackson. She married Irwin D. Waring in 1946.

Margaret was educated in Oneonta schools, graduating from high school in 1932 and Oneonta Normal School in 1935. She later earned her Baccalaureate Degree in Elementary Education at State University College at Oneonta. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Norwich from 1956 to 1976 when she retired and moved to the Goodyear Lake Area.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Irwin D. Waring of Goodyear Lake; her son, Robert L. Waring and his wife, Lilia of Westborough, Mass.; and her daughter, Jeanne A. Harrison and her husband, Don of Maryland.

She is also survived by her granddaughters, Alison Waring of Westborough, Mass. and Sara Harrison of Maryland; her grandson, US Navy Commander Michael Touse and his wife, Elizabeth of Washington, DC; her great grandchildren, Jack, Rachel and Claire Touse of Washington, DC and her sister, Patricia Blakeslee of Oneonta.

She was predeceased by her parents and her four sisters, Priscilla, Virginia, Barbara and Nancy.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 20, 2012, from noon to 1 pm at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance. A memorial service will follow at 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
