Maxine M. Doig
DOWNSVILLE — Maxine M. Doig of Downsville, a retired Delaware County employee, Delhi, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at her home. She was 72.
The daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Howard MacDonald, she was born Jan. 22, 1940, in Downsville.
Maxine was very active in the Downsville community; she initiated the placement of luminaries at Christmas time and started the May Day Flower tradition.
She loved her grandchildren and attended all of their sporting events and baked goodies for the athletes.
She is survived by two sons, Roland S. Doig and his companion, Jalynn, of Binghamton, and Mack Doig and his wife, Amy, of Downsville; two brothers, Bud MacDonald and his wife, Leona, of Downsville, and Fred MacDonald of Harpursville; three sisters, Doris Jones of Rochester, Dawn Spencer of Binghamton, and Kay Tillapaugh and her husband, Ron, of Delhi; three grandchildren, Chelsea Doig, Zachery Doig and Kailen Doig; her loving dog, Molly; several nieces and nephews; and “Grandma’s gang,” Chelsea, Katelynn, Roxanne, Harley, Katie, Katrina, Krista, Garrett, Zach, Jared, Josh, and Nick.
Maxine married Roland E. “Skeeter” Doig on May 18, 1963. He predeceased her March 1, 2002. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Shirley Grant, Phyllis Morin and Sharlee Horyleu.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Colchester Community Church, Main Street, Downsville. The Rev. Dale Ashby will officiate.
Burial will be private in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
