Hilda Bowen
BURLINGTON FLATS — Hilda Bowen of Burlington Flats went home to her Lord joyously on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012.
She was born Sept. 11, 1941, in the town of New Lisbon, the daughter of Kenneth Arthur and Viola (Richards) Harrington.
She married Wesley Bowen on May 25, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Morris. Wesley predeceased Hilda on April 2, 2005.
Hilda was a member of the Exeter Center United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for the Exeter Center Cemetery Association.
She was a devoted wife for more than 40 years, to Wesley in their marriage, raising of their children and the farm.
Hilda was a professional hairstylist, and operated her own hair salon for many years. Hilda thoroughly enjoyed being with children, and was considered the “mother” to all who came across her path in life.
She enjoyed her ceramic classes; and volunteered numerous hours to the community in fundraising events. Hilda was motivated to give joyously to all, this was especially true for Christmas season.
She is survived by her children, Karen Bowen, Marena and Christopher Maier, Colleen and Kevin Johnson, Kevin and Michele Bowen and Valerie and Tony Backo; six grandchildren, Natasha, Blake, Cody, Miranda, Aiden and Bella; her great-grandson, Xavier; her siblings, Madeline and Larry Daniels, Gary and Debbie Harrington, Eva Joy, Donna and Dennis Mumbulo, and Ray and Penny Harrington; her sisters-in-law, Helen Harrington, Charlotte Harrington, Charlene Mulford, Marcia and Bob Ubner; her brother-in-law, Russell and Janet Bowen.
Her husband, Wesley; brothers Roy and George Harrington predeceased Hilda.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the West Exeter United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Besemer officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
Interment will be in Exeter Center Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in Hilda’s name to the Exeter Center United Methodist Church, the West Exeter Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
