Florence Roseland Geertgens Simmons
CASTLETON — Florence G. Simmons, 100, passed away peacefully early Thursday, Oct. 18. 2012.
Born and raised in Maltby, S.D., until her parents and 10 brothers and sisters left for a farm outside Franklin, where two more brothers and two sisters were born.
In 1932, she graduated from Delaware Literary Institute in Franklin.
She married Ralph (Butler) Simmons (deceased) in May of 1941, and went to work at Scintilla making airplane parts during World War II.
She owned a beautician shop in Franklin until retiring.
Florence was an avid gardener not only attending her flowers but caring for neighbors gardens as well. She moved to the Albany area in 2000, to be near her daughter and grandchildren.
Florence was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan Simmons.
She is survived by her brothers, Glenn, Unadilla, and Paul, Schenectady; also her son, Tom (Sandy) Simmons of Sidney, and their children, Mark (Tracy) and Steven; her daughter, Sharon Simmons Brunetto of East Greenbush, her children, AndreaRose and Ross; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Wilson, Ross, Russell and Carmen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff at the Riverside (Resurrection) Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for their loving care of Florence.
A funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family.
