Kevin Patrick Roney

Kevin Patrick Roney

ANDES _ On Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, surrounded by family and loved ones, Kevin Patrick Roney, age 54, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer.

Kevin was born on June 18, 1956, to William T. Roney and Dawn E. Fairbairn in Margaretville.

Kevin served our country faithfully as an air traffic controller in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and retired on Oct. 31, 1996, as an AC1 Petty Officer First Class/E6. Although his career was always high stress Kevin loved it and he made friends all over the country because of it.

As much as he loved to travel, his love for his home town of Andes, was number one in his life. Everyone who met Kevin loved him. He loved life and was a bundle of energy and always willing to lend a hand whenever one was needed. You could count on Kevin to have a big smile on his face.

Kevin loved to party with all his friends and his passion for the Bullet Hole, led to the building of the largest "tool shed" in Delaware County. Whenever you couldn't find him in town, you knew you could more than likely find him bar-b-cueing chicken down at the "Golden Acre."

Kevin will be remembered for his love for fishing, hunting and always being down for a good time.

Kevin is survived by his father, William "Bill" Roney, who is 91; his daughters, Rhea Lawson and Brianna Reyes; stepdaughter, Jessica Graham; and four grandchildren, Kylee Graham, Nya and Seth Lawson and Kora Reyes.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dawn Fairbairn of Millville, N.J.

Family and friends are invited to join us from 3 to 5 p.m. for viewing and from 5 to 6 p.m. for a memorial service on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at the Andes Presbyterian Church at 70 Delaware Ave., Andes, performed by Pastor Steve Swanson. Following the service please join us at the Andes Hotel for a reception, food will graciously be provided by Ed and Sally O'Neill. Please bring a dessert to pass.

There will be a military honors service graveside in the spring. The date is yet to be determined.
