UNADILLA — Douglas Frank Decker, 74, of Unadilla, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.
He was born April 18, 1938, in Norwich, the son of Douglas N. and Mildred (Thompson) Decker.
He married the former Thelma Mills on June 5, 1959, in Unadilla.
A lifelong resident of Unadilla, Doug was a graduate of Sidney Central School in 1957.
He was a lumber grader for Unalam Corp. in Sidney for 28 years. He also had been a police officer for the villages of Unadilla, Bainbridge, Sidney and Morris prior to his retirement.
Doug was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of Bainbridge American Legion Post 806 as well as a member of the Doodlebug Club of Franklin, the Tri-Town Kiwanis Club and Sidney Moose Club No. 277.
He enjoyed auctions, NASCAR, dirt track racing and roller skating.
Doug was a part owner of Decker’s Body Shop in Bainbridge with his son, Ron.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Decker of Unadilla; a son, Ronald and his wife, Carrie Decker of Bainbridge; a daughter, Amy Ebert and her fiancé, Charles Carvin of Mount Upton; two special grandchildren, Danielle Ebert and Amanda Decker; and special friends, Robert “Bob” Fink, James Riggs; and many other friends and family.
A military graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, when the family will be in attendance at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, 5005 Campus Wood Drive, East Syracuse, NY 13057 in Doug’s memory.
