DAVENPORT — Janis (John) Boikovs, 88, of Davenport, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.
John was the husband of Emily Silliman McDonald Boikovs (The Candy Lady); they were married in Jefferson on July 18, 1986, and lived in the Jefferson area since 1976.
He was a strong supporter of disabled veterans groups throughout his life.
John will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors and was known to all as “John the Russian.”
John learned his farming skills from his wife and his good friend and neighbor, who tolerated him on many occasions.
He enjoyed playing cards and watching WWF wrestling. One of John’s favorite pastimes was eating “peachies” and taking a “snirk.”
He is survived by his brother, Nikolajs Boikovs and his wife, Aria of Latvia; a son, David McDonald of Saratoga Springs; a daughter, Debi McDonald and life partner, Tim Kinch of Davenport; a son, Edward McDonald; a grandson, Justin of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Ariana from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Calling hours will be held at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, with funeral services held immediately following at the Johnston Funeral Home with the Rev. Bert More officiating.
Interment will be in Hillington Cemetery at a later date.
