William F. Gregory
COBLESKILL — William F. Gregory, 88, of Clove Road, Town of Seward, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Gregory was born March 5, 1924, in Corbett, a son of Dorr and Lena (Murray) Gregory, graduated from Gilboa High School and SUNY Cobleskill before his enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served his country during World War II reaching the rank of sergeant, working in medical services and also in the MPs.
Soon after his honorable discharge, William began his working career as an environmental conservation officer with NYS Region No. 4, achieving the rank of lieutenant before his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the American Legion Post in Conesville, the Schoharie County Police Association, the Town of Seward Historical Society and also served as the Town Historian.
He was a longtime member of the Hyndsville United Methodist Church and was on its Board of Trustees, serving as
William enjoyed working with wood, the outdoors and he spent many hours hunting, fishing and fly-tying.
He was married to Genevieve (Buel) Gregory from Nov. 27, 1947 until her death on July 30, 1990.
Survivors include his children, Roselyn (Frank) Macri of Albany, Jodi (Randy Cravotta) Gregory of Esperance and Scott Gregory of Richfield Springs; his longtime companion, Linda Champlin; five grandchildren, Ryan (Korrin) Macri, Joshua (Margaret) Macri, Timothy Macri, Luke Gregory and PO 1CL Zachary (Ashley) Gregory; two great-grandsons, William and Alexander; one sister, Nettie (Warren) Schermerhorn of Manorkill; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel St., Cobleskill, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1.
Burial will be later in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Janesville.
