Norma Estella (Bice) Lauria
NEW BERLIN _ Norma Estella (Bice) Lauria, 97, of New Berlin, passed away on June 15, 2012, in New Berlin.
Norma was born on Feb. 2, 1915, in the town of Edmeston, the daughter of Harold A. and Mabel (Whittemore) Bice.
Her childhood was spent in the Edmeston area, where she was a graduate of Edmeston Central School. She took nurse's aide training at St. Luke's Hospital in Utica and later worked at Chase Hospital and Nursing Home and Chenango Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide.
In 1934, she married Rocco Lauria in Frankfort. He predeceased her on Jan. 4, 1981.
Norma was a very caring person who loved to help people. She was an active member of the Berean Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a Deaconess. She also enjoyed playing piano for the church and at Chase Nursing Home.
Norma is survived by her children, Rocco Joseph Lauria of Mount Vision, Phyllis Tufts of McGraw, Mrs. Stuart (Doris) Gould of New Berlin, and Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Maxson of West Edmeston. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Bice of Zephyrhills, Fla.
She was predeceased by one brother, William Bice.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Berean Baptist Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Dwight Kenyon and the Rev. Romeyn Kipp, officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Dakin Funeral Home, LP, New Berlin.
The interment will be in the Edmeston Union Cemetery.
