GILBOA -- Jeffrey Charles Jones, 16, son of Jeffrey and Laurie Jones, passed away unexpectedly with his friend Brittany Paes, on June 13, 2012.

Jeffrey was born on June 8, 1996, at theA.O. Fox MemorialHospital in Oneonta. He was a free-spirited young man who brought a smile to everyone's face.

Jeffrey had just completed his sophomore year of high school at Gilboa-Conesville Central School, where he was well-known as an excellent student and athlete. He was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and played the trumpet in the high school band. He played on the varsity soccer and baseball teams. He was honorably mentioned by the Delaware League on its All-Star soccer team. Jeffrey was also a dedicated and key player on Gilboa's indoor soccer team, helping the team to achieve the Sportsmanship Award at one of his last tournaments. He also played on the junior varsity basketball team and received the Coach's Recognition Award for basketball.

Outside of school, he enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting, boating and water sports and riding ATV's, dirt bikes and snowmobiles with his father, family and other close friends. Jeffrey's many friends remember his easy-going demeanor and light-hearted joking. His teachers appreciated his commitment and conscientious approach to learning. He will be greatly missed by the whole community.

In addition to his parents, Jeffrey will be remembered with love by his sisters, Amanda and Jessica; grandfather, Charles Wyble; grandmother, Wilma Jones; great-grandmother, Mabel Wyble; uncles and aunts, Abe (Annie) Jones, Cindy (Monte) Stryker, Nancy (Scott) Eighmie, Gary (Jean) Wyble, Brian (Tara) Wyble, and Trish Wyble; and many other cousins, family and friends.

Jeffrey was predeceased by his grandfather, Albert B. Jones, grandmother, Patricia Wyble and uncle, Charles (Sonny) Wyble.

The family will be in attendance to receive callers at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18.

Condolences to the family may be left online on the funeral home's website at halltarifh.com.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the Gilboa Methodist Church with Pastor Dot officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilboa Rural Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Jeffrey's memory to the Grand Gorge Fire and Rescue Team.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home under the direction of William A. Tari.
