Frieda Menke
BOVINA - Frieda Menke, 90, a 60-year Bovina resident, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 19, 2012.
She was born Nov. 6, 1921, in Unterskrill, Gottschee, Yugoslavia, the daughter of Josef and Agnes (Schager) Petsche, and emigrated to the U.S. after World War II.
She married Henry Menke, Oct. 2, 1952, in Delhi, and for many years, the couple operated their dairy farm on Cape Horn, Bovina. Henry died Feb 14, 2000.
Frieda was a woman of strength, with a sense of humor, always maintaining her independence, and was devoted to her family, church and farm.
Surviving are a son, Henry J. (Linda) Menke, Delhi; a daughter, Marie (Eric) Stroman, Hamden; a brother, Adolph Petsche, Malverne; two sisters, Hilda Samide and Mitzi Mausser, both of Brooklyn; a sister-in-law, Tillie Rabeler, Delhi; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased were two brothers and a sister, Josef, Hans and Agnes Petsche.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Delhi, with the Rev. John E. Priest, pastor, officiating, and burial will follow in Bovina Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Bovina Emergency Squad, or Immanuel Lutheran Church will be appreciated.
