Walter A. Goodrich

SIDNEY _ Walter A. Goodrich, beloved husband, father, grandfather (Gampa), and friend, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at Tri-Town Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 3, 2012.

Walter was born on Sept. 28, 1941, in Lackawanna, to Walter A. and Harriet (Snyder) Goodrich.

He graduated from Kensington High School (class 1960) in Buffalo. He served in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller from 1961 until 1964, including one tour of duty in Vietnam.

In 1994, he retired following 29 years of service with the New York State Police. He served at SP Lewiston, SP Norwich and Troop C Headquarters, Sidney, (Technical Sergeant/Communications). Following retirement, he served as Village Justice (2001 until 2009), and member of Sidney Central School Board of Education (1998 until 2000). He most recently (2011) was elected to the Sidney Town Board.

On Oct. 23, 1965, Walt married Susan Ratke in Buffalo. Susan survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Robin S. Goodrich, Ed.D., RN., New Milford, Conn.; and son, Intelligence Specialist Chief Petty Officer, Andrew Todd Goodrich, USN (Michelle), Norfolk, Va.; cherished grandchildren, Tyler Goodrich and Christian and Stephanie Ferrante. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond Goodrich (Linda), Orchard Park; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Shirley; and niece, Lisa.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY 13838. Memorial services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
