Vivian (Mattice) Townsend

ONEONTA _ Vivian (Mattice) Townsend, 87, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Nov. 14, 1924, in North Franklin, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Violet (Lorman) Mattice.

Vivian began working at the Oneonta Dairy where she met her husband, Donald. On July 17, 1949, Vivian married Donald Townsend in Dallas, Pa. Donald predeceased her on March 8, 2004.

She then worked in the meat department at P&C Grocery in Oneonta and then she was the food service manager at the Center Street School until her retirement.

Vivian enjoyed playing bingo. She also loved going to the Sunday dances at the Elks Club. She could be found there every Sunday dancing the night away. But most of all she loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vivian was always there for her family and took care of them in their times of need.

Vivian is survived by her four children, Kenneth and Carol Townsend of Stamford, Jeri Townsend and John Christensen of Oneonta, Jacalyn and James Renwick of Burlington Flats and Karen and Gordon Saggese of Oneonta; stepson, David Wiltsie of California; 10 grandchildren, Michael Townsend, Stacy Howland, Ann Osborne, Jill Renwick, Patrick Renwick, Kelly Renwick, Jennifer Renwick, Chad Saggese, Christopher Saggese and Stephanie Gelardi; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine and Andy Prez of Port Crane; one brother, David Mattice of Oneonta; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Winfield Mattice, Kenneth Mattice Jr., Leroy Richard Mattice and Robert Mattice.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in the West Oneonta Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial donations in Vivian's name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
