Jarvis E. Hyzer, D.D.S.
OTEGO _ Dr. Jarvis E. Hyzer, 81, of Otego and Vero Beach, Fla., died Saturday morning, July 7, 2012.
He was born on Aug. 6, 1930, in Franklin, the son of Harold and Hazel Hyzer.
Dr. Hyzer served the local community as a dentist for 40 years retiring in 1994. A graduate of Hartwick College, class of 1952, and SUNY Buffalo School of Dentistry, class of 1956. He was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Society of SUNY Buffalo and the Sixth District Dental Society. A Captain in the U.S. Army, Dr. Hyzer was stationed in Texas and Arkansas.
Dr. Hyzer was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church where he was active on the vestry and as an usher. He also was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church in Vero Beach serving as an usher. He was a past member of the Oneonta Rotary Club.
He enjoyed many pursuits beyond dentistry. Dr. Hyzer was a woodworker specializing in fine furniture and clock case work. He was an instrument rated private pilot, who learned to fly at F&F Airpark and flew from Oneonta Municipal Airport. Other pursuits included landscape painting and extensive travel with his motor home.
Dr. Hyzer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Hyzer; his son, Rudy Hyzer, daughter-in-law, Barbara and grandson, Roy Garrett of Bernardsville, N.J.; his brother, Robert Hyzer of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for July 21, 2012, at St. James' Episcopal Church at 11 a.m.
