Georgianna (Benkert) Peter
SOUTH KORTRIGHT _ Georgianna (Benkert) Peter of South Kortright, passed away at age 91 on Nov. 28, 2011.
She was the wife of Louis Edward Peter, who predeceased her in 1984. She was predeceased by her son, Walter Howard Peter, who died in 2006.
Georgianna is survived by her son, Warren Edward Peter and his wife, Sandra of Spring Grove, Pa. In addition, surviving are grandson, Scott E. Peter and wife Shelly, parents of great-granddaughters, Autumn Grace and Aubrey Elyse favorites of their great-grandmother.
Georgianna was born in Central Park (now Bethpage), the daughter of Hans and Mamie Benkert, in 1920.
She was predeceased by her brother, Howard Jacob Benkert; and sister, Muriel (Benkert) Cava; and is survived by Jean E. Benkert.
Georgianna served as the secretary-treasurer for the Benkert Bus Transportation Company owned by her parents while living in Bethpage. She also served as the superintendent of the Sunday School at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 25 years.
Upon moving to South Kortright in 1956, and then to Hobart in 1962, Georgianna established Peter's Antique Shop in Hobart, which she operated for many years.
Following the death of her husband, she returned to South Kortright building a new home again continuing her interest in antiques.
Georgianna was an active member of the South Kortright Presbyterian Church and enthusiastic member of the Hobart Historical Society where she had many friends and contributed her considerable knowledge to the organizations activities.
Georgianna is also survived by her niece, Mary Lou (Benkert) Pidd; nephews, Howard Jack Benkert, William Benkert and John Benkert and their families.
The family wishes to express great thanks to the nurses and nursing assistants who cared for Georgianna in her last months. Their care was professional and very loving which also reassured the family in difficult times.
In addition, a special thank you to William and Lori Benkert, who gave special care and attention to Georgianna for many years, always being available to provide for her needs.
Burial followed a graveside service in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart on Nov. 30, 2011. Thank you to the Rev. Bert More for his gracious and memorable service.
