PINE HILL — Siegfried Otto Burkhardt, 72, of Pine Hill, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012.
He was born Dec. 27, 1939, in Massebach, Germany, the son of Fritz and Rosa Burkhardt.
He immigrated to Brooklyn in 1951 and moved to a farm in Jefferson some time later.
Siegfried enlisted in the United States Army in 1963, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., in the Airborne Corps.
Following his discharge, Siegfried worked in the knitting and textile industry in Queens, until his retirement in 2004. He moved to his weekend home in Pine Hill and worked several winters at Belleayre Mountain.
Throughout his life, Siegfried enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, his backyard wildlife and his beloved cat, Maggie.
He is predeceased by his mother in 1959 and his father in 1942.
Surviving are his cousin, George and his wife, Brenda Hasay of Fleischmanns; aunt, Elfriede Burkhardt; and cousin, Margarete Seiz and her daughter, Nadine Frick, all of Germany.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hynes Funeral Home.
Committal service with military honors will follow in the Bedell Cemetery, Fleischmanns.
