Violet E. Hulick
NEW BERLIN _ Violet E. Hulick passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2012, at Chase Memorial Hospital, New Berlin.
Vi was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Fallsburg, the daughter of Jay C. Pelton and Helen Palmer Pelton of Monticello. The Pelton family were some of the earliest settlers of Sullivan County.
Her loving husband, Loring, passed away in January 2011. She is survived by two sons, Donald of Unadilla, and Douglas of Otego, and grandchildren Alexandra, Adam, David, Michael, Douglas, Andrew and Malcom.
Violet had married Loring in 1947. She was a kindergarten and special ed teacher for many years. She returned to college at age 52 and graduated with a nursing degree.
She was an accomplished organist and a choir director and active in many churches of various denominations. She was a true humanitarian who gave freely of her talents and time, volunteering time to organize youth groups, choirs and years of service to the American Red Cross disaster response group.
She lived her life without prejudice and with compassion for all, a true disciple of Jesus. She was accepting of people of all cultures and religions. In 1951, she was instrumental in arranging for Pearl Primus and company to perform at St. Lawrence University and in the late 1950s was influential in the hiring of the first Asian professor at Orange County Community College.
A private ceremony will be held in the spring. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched.
