Major Mrs. Sara Mae Wittenberg

May 3, 1921-Sept. 4, 2012

Sara Agnew was born on May 3, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa. She graduated from Overbrook High School in 1939. She was ordained as a minister in The Salvation Army as a member of the Liberty session of 1944.

In January 1948, she married Leo Wittenberg. After their marriage, they served as pastors in Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania. Leo preceded her in death in 1971. Sara retired from active service in 1983.

She is survived by her brother, James Agnew; five children, Daniel Wittenberg of Prospect Park, Pa., Christine Honsberger of Monroeville Pa., Major Laurence (Lynne) Wittenberg of Norristown, Pa., Cyndy (D. Patrick) Morris of Lorton, Va., and Major Philip (Susan) Wittenberg of Hempstead; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A viewing will be held at the Salvation Army Roxborough Corps, 6730 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia Pa., from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012. A Service of Remembrance will follow the viewing.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. A time of fellowship and celebration will follow at The Salvation Army, 25 River St., Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army Child Sponsorship.
