Despite meeting cancellation, 350 gather to protest drilling

A large crowd of people concerned about the negative affects of proposed gas drilling in the region rallied at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the courthouse square in Delhi. Organizers said there were about 350 people at the rally, which had been planned to coincide with the regular meeting of the Delaware County Board of Supervisors that was canceled Tuesday.

EPA hearing on gas drilling postponed
A federal EPA hearing this week on natural-gas drilling was switched Monday from Binghamton University to Syracuse and then postponed Tuesday because of crowd concerns.

EPA should have foreseen problems with hearing
When it comes to natural gas drilling, it seems nothing can happen without controversy. The latest example is the furor over the Environmental Protection Agency's indefinite postponement of a hearing on hydraulic fracturing that was supposed to happen today in upstate New York.
