Jenkins to emcee Seniors Open Pro-Am

Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins will serve as the celebrity host for the 30th annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am golf tournament that runs from Sept. 4-7 at Leatherstocking Golf Course.

Jenkins, a 1991 Hall inductee, will emcee the Sept. 4 Pro-Am and speak at a fundraiser dinner that evening. The Pro-Am starts at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The following day, nearly 100 professionals from around the country will tee it up for the $100,000 Seniors Open, a three-day tournament that pays out $10,000 to the winner.

The tournament was canceled in 2011 because of rain. Ed Whitman of Blairstown, N.J., won the tournament in 2010 with a 54-hole total of 202.

Jenkins, 69, was in Cooperstown last month for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which included the enshrinement of former teammate Ron Santo. He won 284 games and won the National League Cy Young Award in 1971.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Pathfinder Village in Edmeston. Pathfinder Village is a residential community that serves children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. The tournament annually raises more than $50,000 for Pathfinder.
