Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton fell just short of successfully defending its Section Four Class B wrestling championship as Windsor beat the Bears by one point in the 10-team tournament Saturday at Waverly.
Austin Carr earned B-G/A's only championship, winning the 99-pound title with a 7-0 decision over Owego's Ryan Kwiatkowski. Carr pinned Susquehanna Valley's Colin Way with 16 seconds left in their quarterfinal to start his title run. He then beat Jackson Bell of Owego, 7-5, in the semifinals.
The Bears, who amassed 177.5 points, received runner-up finishes from Corey Burnett (145 pounds), Mark Viviano (195) and Billy Holden (285). All three were pinned in the first period of their respective finals as Burnett lost to Chenango Valley's Kyle Halladay in 1 minute, Viviano lasted 54 seconds against Kegan Levesque of Norwich, and Owego's James Merritt stopped Holden in 1:32.
B-G/A also received thirds from Justin Cirigliano (132), Jesse Griswold (138), Jamie Griswold (145), Josh Akshar (152) and Shane Curtin (220), as well as a fourth from Brett Hubbard (113).
The top five finishers in classes B, C and D earned automatic berths in the overall Section Four Division II championships, which simultaneously run with the Section Four Division I championships Friday and Saturday at the Broome County Arena. Each weight class in the D-II finals also will have one wild-card entry.
Overall Section Four D-I and D-II champions will advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 24-25 at the Times-Union Center in Albany.
Oneonta High will send 10 wrestlers to the D-II sectional championships as the Yellowjackets got a runner-up finish from Fred Thomas at 170, fourth-place finishes from Jacob Vaccaro (152) and Francis Thomas (182), and seven fifth-place finishes.
Thomas fell, 10-1, to Waverly's Ryan Wolcott in the 170-pound final. Vacarro lost, 13-5, to Akshar in the third-place match at 152, and Thomas was pinned 11 seconds in to the second period of his 182-pound consolation final against Waverly's Kyle Palumbo.
Mitchell Spaziani (99), Dalton Ormsby (113), Mel Ackley (120), Austin Scheer (132), James Longo (138), Khalil Derios (195) and Cory Corkwell (285) placed fifth for the Jackets, who received a sixth from Tanner Loos at 145.
OHS scored 119 points to finish eighth in the tournament, which was won by Windsor with 178.5 points.

Section Four Class C
Defending champion Walton got a title at 99 pounds and a second-place finish at 182 en route to 147 points for fourth in the team standings as Greene cruised to the Section Four Class C championship at Lansing with 179 points.
Dylan Wood pinned Greene's Braxton Howell in the 99-pound final in 1:46 for the Warriors, who got a second at 182 when Mike Beers dropped an 8-1 decision to the Trojans' Keegan Cerwinski.
Five-time Midstate Athletic Conference champion Scott Stafford beat Unatego's Austin Ryan in a tournament final for the second straight week as the Sidney senior won the 120-pound crown with a 6-0 decision. Stafford beat Ryan, 9-0, in the 120-pound MAC final Jan. 28 at Afton.
Sidney had another champion in Austin Dean, who needed 29 seconds to pin Spencer-Van Etten's Thomas Swarthout in the 285-pound final. Alex Morrow contributed a runner-up finish at 195 for Sidney, which placed fifth as a team with 131.5 points. Morrow was pinned by Lansing's Ryan Todd in 1:36.
Kevin Thayer won the 138-pound title with a 7-3 victory over Greene's Trevor Parrish, helping Unatego to second in the team standings with 152.5 points. Codie Nichols beat Ryan Marszal, 10-4, in an all-Spartans final at 145.
Jake DeJoy (126) and Lucas DeJoy (132) finished third for Unatego, which received fourths from Nate Wilsey (170) and Bradey Bean (285), and fifths from Holden Smith (99), Leland Slawson (152) and Riley Hanrahan (160).
Eddie Castillo took third at 195 and Jimmy Copeland did the same at 152 for Walton, which got fourths from Logan Robinson (106), Dakota Allen (113) and Kyle Constable (145), and fifths from Tommy Caldarulo (120), Dawson Beers (132), Ray James (138) and Joe Hahn (285).
Nicholas Jump had a third at 160, Matt Higgins (126) and Dylan Gifford (132) were fourth, and Chase Northrop (106) and James Martin (113) placed fifth for Sidney.

Section Four Class D
Collin Ellis, Cody Lafever and Bryan Ingram won championships and Mike Neumann placed second for Delhi, which finished third with 139.5 points during the Section Four Class D Tournament at Odessa-Montour.
Ellis earned a 14-6 major decision over Oxford's Nik Hansen to win the 152-pound title, Lafever beat Tioga's Tyler Spires, 9-6, for the 170-pound crown, and Ingram downed Moravia's Chris Todd with an 11-0 major decision in the 195-pound final. Neumann dropped a 3-2 decision to Tioga's Christian Richter in the 160-pound championship match.
Joe Brown (132) and Noah DeDominicis (145) placed third, Trey Mostert (126) was fourth, and Justin Mattice (132) finished fifth for the Bulldogs, who trailed Tioga (207 points) and Deposit (183) in the team standings.
Unadilla Valley's Dustin Badger rounded out the local champions, pinning Deposit's Jon Wingerter with one second left in their 132-pound final.
The Storm, who had 90 points for seventh place, received thirds from Kalvin Abrams (99) and Tyler Olson (138), a fourth from Alex Avolio (195), and fifths from Caleb Simons (106) and Brandon Brown (120).

Section Three Class D
Michael Boyle earned Cooperstown's highest finish with a second at 113 pounds during the Section Three Class D Tournament at Sandy Creek.
Dolgeville's Ben Nastovski avenged a 4-1 loss to Boyle in the Center State Conference championships Jan. 28 at Adirondack with a 7-2 title victory Saturday. Boyle has dropped three of four matches against Nastovski this season.
Jacob Russell (99), Jacob Miller (138), Kevin Segit (195) and JP Gertz (285) placed third for the Redskins, who were seventh out of 15 teams with 88.5 points. Sandy Creek won the team title with 212.5 points and Dolgeville placed second at 190.
Miller won his consolation final against Onondaga's Nathan Smart, 7-6, on a last-second reversal.
William Murphy pinned teammate Jeremiah Parr 1:36 into the fifth-place match at 182 pounds for Cooperstown, which will compete in the Section Three Division II Championships at 9 a.m. this Saturday at Onondaga Community College's SRC Arena.
